What is Monotype?
A Monotype is essentially a printed painting. Although images can be similar, no two prints are alike. Editioning however, is not possible; you only get one print as there is no permanent matrix on the plate. We will be using autumn leaves and plant materials with spot colour and drawn line to make exciting ‘painterly’ prints.
What is Collagraph?
A Collagraph print is one made from a plate collaged with different textures. The base plate can be mountcard, plywood, plastic or metal. In this evening class we will use collaged textured wall papers with a variety of tapes – masking tape, parcel tape, etc – and lifting the top layer of mountboard.
There are no end to the possibilities with Collagraph printing. It’s a cheap and an accessible way to printmaking. We will be simply scratching the surface by make simple plates to create pattern and print in a single colour to make surprisingly impressive prints.
