Printing from Nature II
Eco-print & traditional printmaking combined
A voyage of discovery across both eco-printing and traditional printmaking processes. The course will explore eco-printing (printing with plants and their natural dyes) in combination with monotype and collagraphs. No specific experience of any of the processes is required and no drawing skills required either. The course is specifically designed both for new students and those who attended my October 2017 Printing from Nature workshop.
Back by popular demand, with a third day added in order to provide more opportunities for experimentation and consolidation of knowledge and techniques.
You will experiment with different mordants (the specialist powders that fix and change the intensity and colour of the natural dyes) in a methodical way. You will tune how you work between traditional paper-based printmaking and eco-printing to develop a whole new level of potential creativity. There is no right or wrong answer, just an exploration of the possible. The outcomes will be anything but predictable!
You will leave the workshop with a basic knowledge of the skills, equipment required and an understanding of the process. You will also leave understanding the health & safety considerations of which you need to be aware when working with mordants and plants, if you want to repeat the process at home. You will take away a small library of your own creations in the form of unique Z-folded booklets and small prints to remind you of what you have done and how you got there. You may wish to frame and keep your best work or even give as a gift!
