INSPIRATION

Last year we had a wonderful break on the Isle of Barra. I have a particular fondness for the Hebridean Islands. We have had many wonderful holidays on both inner and outer Hebridean Islands. The first one I ever went to was the Isle of Arran - pre children. Colonsay was the next one when my two children were just under three and a few months old., The next one was Islay, then Jura, then the Isles of Harris and Lewis. When the kids left home we visited Eigg (twice - beautiful place) but the corker was last year - the Isle of Barra and Vatersay - the most beautiful of the lot - so far. There’s still North and South Uist, Mull and more.

Anyway, the ferry crossing to Barra seems different. Right from the word go, the further out to sea we went the more abundant the bird life seemed to be, we say whales, dolphins and porpoise. It was sheer magic. This print was inspired by that ferry crossing. It started out as a sunny but blustery day but towards the end the swell was ‘significant’ (there had been storms in the preceding days) and there was a little bit of rain.
