Lindisfarne At Dawn
Lindisfarne At Dawn
INSPIRATION
Sea Mist features the iconic silhouette of Lindisfarne Castle looming out of the mist on the Northumberland coast. It was a fort built on the headland of Holy Island, using stones from Lindisfarne Priory after the dissolution of the monasteries by King Henry VIII and further fortified by Elizabeth I creating this imposing structure. The tidal island has a rich Celtic Christian history going back to the 6th century when Saints Aidan, St. Cuthbert, Eadfrith and Eadberht brought Celtic Christianity to the North of England from Ireland and Iona.
This print is part of a variable edition of 20. That means the plate can be printed up to twenty times with a varying colour palette so that no two prints are exactly the same. When I print a variable edition I play with different colour palettes to evoke different moods, seasons, times of day.
