The #ArtistSupportPledge, is a movement instigated by Sussex based artist Matthew Burrows. His brainchild idea is the create an online support system for artists who have lost sales with the closure of galleries across the country.
The concept is a simple one. Artists post images of their work for sale, costing £200 or less with the hashtag #artistsupportpledge. Anyone can buy the work. Every time the artist reaches £1000 of sales, they then pledge to spend £200 on a fellow artist/s work, continuing the flow of sales.
The generosity has become infectious and the movement has spread worldwide. Since the pledge first went out on March 17th over 9000 pledges generating sales of several million.
