Winter Storm On Bamburgh Beach
Winter Storm On Bamburgh Beach
INSPIRATION
The inspiration for this print began with a winter walk on Bamburgh Beach following ‘The Beast from the East’ winter storms of early 2018. The storm revealed the carcass of a wooden boat sticking out of the sand. It turned out to be the remains of an old Viking ship that the winter storms had exposed after centuries buried under the sand. Not long after it was uncovered, the shifting sands buried the boat again.
'Bamburgh Beach Hidden past', is a nod to that day and to other, as yet undiscovered hidden remnants of history that may lie under the sands in the shadow of Bamburgh Castle. The materials include mount board, texture paste, scored card surface, acrylic paint and a found feather from the beach coupled with a moody winter palette of inks. I experimented with a variety of different colour palettes from more muted ones to stronger ones in different versions of this variable edition.
