INSPIRATION

Northumberland International Dark Skies status is not awarded to the area for nothing. Our night skies are quite something if you’re in the right place. ‘Stronghold Under A Starry Sky’ is a dramatic seascape view of Dunstanburgh Castle from the beach at Newton, under the Northumberland night sky.

The art print is made using two plates, one printed using monotype to create the background colours with the collagraph overprinted on top. The image was created from a collagraph plate using PVA glue, carborundum and paint to create the textured surface to which the ink is applied using brushes and rags. The second plate was inked to create the atmospheric background sky.
