INSPIRATION

A vivid tapestry at the Museum of Scotland, ablaze with reds and turquoise blues, sparked the initial idea for "Startled In The Moonlight". This was followed by an encounter with two deer in a birch wood. I imagined the scene illuminated by the moonlight, pulling in reference to Neolithic rock art I’d seen in a photo taken in a Northumberland wood. Earlier versions in the variable edition drew on the tapestry's vibrant colours. I embraced a more intuitive approach, in this version, allowing the colours of winter to dictate the final outcome.
