St. Oswald's Legacy VI
St. Oswald's Legacy VI
INSPIRATION
"St. Oswald’s Legacy VI" is a seascape art print that fuses together monotype and collagraph techniques. After several years after its initial conception as a collagraph, Carol Nunan embarked on reprinting the plate, using monotype underlayers to infuse the image with a new luminous quality. Carol also included the use of a found piece of fishing net from the shores of the Isle of Bute to add a thought-provoking layer to the composition. The net not only adds pattern and texture to the print but also serves as a poignant reminder of the environmental challenges posed by plastic waste from various sources, including the fishing industry.
The piece draws inspiration from the pilgrimage route of St. Cuthbert's Way, and the view from the shore out across the bay with the silhouette of Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island. "St. Oswald’s Legacy VI" stands as a tribute to the landscape and early Christian history of Northumbria. The subtle inclusion of a fishing net invites viewers to contemplate both the beauty and fragility of our natural world.
