Before The Storm At Scalpsie
Before The Storm At Scalpsie
INSPIRATION
"Before The Storm at Scalpsie" is a unique seascape art print born from Carol Nunan's early island explorations. The print expertly blends the techniques of monotype and collagraph, with the collagraph element of the plate even being textured using a blowtorch.
The inspiration for this print struck shortly after a tranquil Sunday beach walk on Scalpsie Beach on the Isle of Bute off the west coast of Scotland. While observing the imposing rock formations emerging from the sand, she noticed a colony of seals perched precariously on the nearby rocks. Carol attempts the capture the dynamic interplay of weather on an island with this print – the rain drifting across the sea towards the land, and then shifting away once the wind changes direction. Carol hopes the result is an evocative portrayal of the dramatic moments just "Before The Storm at Scalpsie."
