INSPIRATION

The curlew has an unmistakeable silhouette and I living as i do on the doorstep of the vast rolling uplands of the Northumberland National Park where the curlew still abounds, I am only too aware that curlews are steadily decreasing in number in the grassy uplands and loughs and along the coast. My hope is that the series of prints I am making will encourage people to look more carefully at (and therefore value) this fabulous, slightly other-worldly bird that has become a symbol of Northumberland.

I have experimented with combining monotype printing with the collagraph plate to make this print. The print process is quite involved with several layers of colour being printed first before the collagraph plate is over printed to pull the whole image together.
